Prompt Engineering Reflection

To optimize my resume for different job positions, I used specific prompts that specified the industry I was applying to, and then instructed AI to alter the wording and style of my uploaded resume to align with the expectations of that role. After AI generated the first draft, I refined my instructions by asking it to be more specific about my skills. For example, rewriting my customer service experience to highlight banking-related skills and emphasizing experience in handling private information for legal and policy roles. I also instructed it to adjust the tone and include specific industry keywords to appeal to the employers.

The AI-generated versions differed from my original resume because they shifted the focus of my experiences from being broad to industry-specific. The banking resume was more focused on transaction accuracy, customer interactions, and communication skills. The legal and policy resume, focused on conflict resolution, community involvement, and responsibility. My experience stayed the same, but the tone and wording were better suited to the specific industry.

The process of effective prompt engineering requires you to upload specific instructions about your assignment, tone, and audience. The more context you put into your instructions, the better your results will be without having to upload additional instructions.
